As a big fan of the 3DO Road Rash, I find it hard to stomach the blocky 3D look of Road Rash 3D and Jail Break. You'd think they could smooth it out just a tad more. Needless to say, the graphics haven't changed significantly from RR 3D. Gameplay isn't much different either. Most of the changes involve the play modes. Two-player is a welcome addition and pumps life into an otherwise so-so title. Technically multiplayer works fine; the frame-rate keeps up and the computer bikes play along, yet it all could be better. It's tough to keep an opponent contained for a long exchange of blows. Sidecar Battle alleviates the problem somewhat with one guy driving and the other attacking. Unfortunately the post-wreck sprint back to the bike has made a return. The problem is, mishaps fling you so far it takes forever to jog back to your bike. Overall, I miss the Thrash and Big Game Modes of years past. Story Mode now involves fighting to win the respect of your gang and midget friend. It leaves a bit to be desired. I do like the Five-0 thing however. It's fun to be the cop sometimes. In the end, if you like what RR 3D offers, you'll dig RR jail Break as well. It's basically the same game but with multiplayer and an extended story line. Hopefully this series will be continued on the PS2.
Wow! The aging franchise has some new life injected into it As a single-player experience it offers a somewhat more elaborate experience than your usual Road Rash, but it really comes into its own when played as a co-op two-player game. With one of you driving, and the other as the 'monkey on the sidecar, the game takes on some entirely new dynamics. It's a shame that this doesn't work so well when everything doubles up for four players though.

This game tries to freshen up the Road Rash formula a bit with special rescue stages and pursuit modes. Trouble is. Jail Break feels like last year's model, and it still emphasizes racing more than hand-to-helmet combat. It's the multiplayer additions that'll make you wanna hop aboard for another ride. The co op sidecar mode is hilarious--especially when you knock your own teammate off the bike. Test drive this thing before you buy.
jail Break is a step in the right direction for the Road Rash series. It's the closest a Road Rash game has come to capturing the magic of the old-school versions. The one-player stuff is pretty sweet. It's too bad the graphics and frame-rate in four-player mode look so chunky compared to the one-player, but it's still playable. I had the most fun playing the two-player sidecar willy mode with Crispin (the four-player sidecar versus just wasn't as fun).

Gameplay[edit]

The game plays similarly to previous games developed in the Road Rash series, which involves the player racing their motorcycle against other motorcyclists. Gameplay favors an arcade-like style, with little emphasis on realism. While racing, the player has the option of punching, or using weapons to attack other opponents, to slow down their progress. The ultimate goal is to place first in the race in order to earn points to upgrade the player's weapon and nitro. Conversely, the worst quote is to finish last, which doesn't earn points, or be stopped by police officers, where the player actually loses points. Despite sharing many characteristics with past games in the series, Road Rash Jailbreak puts a stronger emphasis on the racing aspect of the game, and less on combat.
The individual courses for the game are pieced together from a larger system of interconnected grids of roads. Courses may overlap common segments of other tracks, but often have different start or end points, or have the player turning down alternate routes. The modes on Road Rash Jailbreak are: Jailbreak, Five-O, Time Trial, Cops and Robbers, Skull-to-skull, and Sidecar mode.
